Frightful Mummy Family ~ Thanks for the inspiration, Martha!

A couple of years ago Martha Stewart inspired me to create a super-creepy, super-awesome mummy family. And a couple of years ago I fully intended on blogging about it. Better late than never, huh?

I used couple of styrofoam heads, paper towels, adhesive, & a brush.
(I found a couple of beers to be helpful too)

I prepared the "gauze" using white paper towels dunked in coffee, I crumpled them up, and then left them out to dry for a day or two.

I used Mod Podge for the glue, but you can make your own.
(Martha suggests mixing 1 tbs corn syrup & 2 tbs flour)

Brush the head with the glue...

Add the "gauze" & brush again...and repeat.

After a couple of layers, Dude mummy was coming along nicely, but he was lonely.

So Dude got a Chick

And he thinks she's hot.

Here's the *almost* happy couple textured up a bit more.

And now they are about to be a complete spooktacular family.
(sorry little blonde, blue-eyed, cutie)

I wanted to be able to move her arms & legs, so I "gauzed" her strategically.

The Frightful Family
(awwwwww...)

Frightful Family on display...in a fridge adorned with a red light, bugs, cobwebs, and other creepy crawlies.
(in case they get hungry!)

And this is one of my favorite displays in our Haunted House of Horrors.

About For Your Smiles & how it all began...

Having grown up with grandparents owning a bridal shop, I have always been intrigued with weddings.  Last year when I became a bride myself, had a tight budget, and decided to put all of my crafty skills to the test, I fell in love with details and the number of different options for weddings!  Now I am on a quest to help other brides put beautiful, personal, awesome touches on their weddings too.

My wonderful husband and I also chose to wed on the white sands beach overlooking the turquoise sea in Negril, Jamaica.  Truly the best decision we've made!  It was wonderful and intimate and we were able to celebrate for 4 days before our wedding with our fabulous family and  friends!

And here are a few of my own DIY's (Do-It-Yourself):

Our invites...went from this:

To these beauties (which everyone *loved* - including the bride, ME!)

A close up of our mock-up invite - the sunset picture was taken by my uncles on their trip to Negril a year before our DW (Destination Wedding):

Our monogram that I designed:

This ended up popping up everywhere including envelope seals, OOT bags (Out-Of-Town - we filled them with koozies, bug repellent, antacid tablets, flavored water packets, ziplock baggies, safety pins, nail  polish remover pads, gum, shower poofies, & a photoshare card), puzzle books, etc.

Here's our OOT bags as given to our DW guests in Jamaica:
Simple, sweet, & colorful...just like us!

Here's our palm fans & "Tears of Joy" packets (the tissues were a lifesaver on our wedding day...they were mainly used to dab sweat because though it was absolutely gorgeous...it was a cooker!)

And these are my favorite little tokens that we sent to our guests prior to leaving...*super awesome, custom luggage tags*...and they were also an awesome help in finding our luggage at the airport & we would spot guests arriving at the resort when we'd see their luggage being toted to their rooms...love these!!!  I love them so much that I now sell them as part of my Etsy shop!

Here's the packets that we sent to our guests prior to leaving.  They included their *super cool luggage tags*, a book of jumbles/ puzzles that we created, pens (for the jumbles & customs), & a pamphlet of info that we put together (of course our monogram made an appearance here too!)

And here are just a few of the ideas that we had & a few of the items that we created.  I have so many more ideas my head just swims!  And if you like those luggage tags, I have some awesome ones for sale right now in my Etsy store!

See...aren't pictures fun???
